What is Intro to Bowl Turning?
Intro to Bowl Turning is a 3-day hands-on skills-based course focused on teaching the basic techniques for faceplate turning, with a focus on bowls. You will be introduced to
• the principal tools used for faceplate turning and how to sharpen them.
• alternative ways for preparing and mounting bowl blanks on a lathe
• cuts used to shape the outside and inside of bowls
This is not intended to be a project course, so you won’t make anything specifically other than lots of wood shaving. The key takeaways from these 3 days will be knowledge and tool handling skills that you can take back to your own shop to turn bowls and other faceplate work safely and with confidence.
The course is open to all guild members and is not just for those new to wood turning. If you have been turning for a while, this course is a great opportunity “sharpen” your wood turning skills
