About this event

Dates: Sat 9th & Sun 10th May
Instructor: Ed Pretty

Intro to Spindle Turning is a 2-day hands-on skills-based course focused on teaching the basic techniques for spindle turning or turning between centers. You will be introduced to
• the principal tools used for spindle turning and how to sharpen them, in particular the spindle roughing gouge, skew chisel, spindle gouge & parting tool.
• alternative ways for preparing and mounting spindle blanks on a lathe.
• cuts used to create the primary shapes that appear in spindle work, in particular beads & coves.

This is not intended to be a project course, so you won’t make anything specifically other than lots of wood shavings. The key takeaways from these 2 days will be knowledge and tool handling skills that you can take back to your own shop to turn between centers safely and with confidence.
