Spindle Turning Magic - Nick will start with the basics and cover an assortment of spindle projects. Even after years of turning, he still tries to the wood to utilize all the properties of the wood allowing the form to evolve around grain, colour, and texture.

Turning Boxes - Nick will demonstrate his techniques for creating various types of turned boxes. He will discuss chucking systems, tool selection, surface treatment and safety.

Natural-Edge Forms - Nick finds the art and craft of woodturning to be both challenging and rewarding. He finds it exciting to take a tree trunk or burl and shape it into a beautiful work of art. He will show his method of using various blanks to create natural-edge bowl forms. Nick's Website

Box Making with a Twist - Michael will explore what else a box may be.

Turning, Sanding, and Manipulating Wet Wood - Michael will share how he uses wet wood and how he designs when the object will warp as it dries.

Beyond Basic Boxes – Michael will lead us through a closer look at the design of boxes with a lead into teapots and lids on vessels.

Turning Spheres - Dale will show how to turn a sphere free hand. He will show how to create a vessel from that sphere and decorate it using one of many surface treatments.

Cutting and Turning Bowl Blanks - Dale has a well-earned reputation as a consummate bowl turner. In this demonstration he will show the different types of bowl blanks that may be harvested from the trunk of a tree. Then he will choose one and turn a bowl.

How to Dry Wood for Bowl Turning - Drying wood to prevent cracking is always an important activity. Dale will start at the standing tree and flow through his well-tested process of “curing” bowl blanks. He will discuss how he starts with a wet blank; roughs out a bowl, treats and dries the piece, then remounts it for finish turning. Of particular interest will be his discussion of various drying methods.

Therming - Art shows this traditional turning technique in new and creative ways. Originally, it was used to produce items such as table legs, but it can also be used to produce interestingly shaped hollow vessels or sculptural forms. The wood pieces are mounted between two discs forming a sort of barrel and then turned. The pieces are then remounted and the process is repeated. Art will demonstrate the techniques and then discuss how to construct a therming jig.

Lost Wood - Using another innovative set-up, Art will demonstrate the possibilities that can arise from “lost wood”. In this technique, three boards are laminated together to create a “sandwich” for turning. After the blank is turned, the middle board is removed and the two outer boards are glued together, creating a “not round” shaped cross-section. Art will demonstrate this unique approach by turning a goblet.

Making Wooden Flowers - In this demonstration, Alain will sculpture exquisite flowers from simple wooden blanks. Using a number of techniques he developed himself, Alain will show why he is considered a master of turned sculptural pieces.

Off Centre Turning - Alain will show a number of techniques for off centre turning including working between centres and using the Escoulen off-centre chuck.

Wall Pieces - Large and Small – In this session Jason will discuss issues around turned wall hangings. Topics will include developing your own designs and themes, technical challenges of larger scale objects, work process and methods, and decorating to scale.

Tapestry bowls - Printing on Wood – In this interactive demo Jason will share some of his experience about applying printing methods to turnings. He will discuss layering, carving, using washes, and faux finishes.

Celtic Bowls - An Interactive Session – In this session Jason will hold an interactive session with the audience discussing various aspects of bowl turning. Using a Celtic bowl as a target design he will review the mechanics of producing bowls, stance and body mechanics, tool selection and sharpening, and the evolution of shapes.

Vessels of the South Pacific - Graeme is well known for his wonderful organic forms and in this demonstration he will present his unique approach to creating turned hollow vessels. He will discuss his design influences, some basic tool selection and turning techniques, and some guidelines on sharpening. In addition, he will talk about wood selection, carving techniques, hollow turning techniques, surface embellishment, inlaying, use of multi-media elements, finishing techniques, and safety. This demonstration is suitable for turners of all skill levels.

Surface, Surface: - Graeme will present a myriad of surface treatments and embellishments. He will cover design and influences, tool selection and sharpening, wood carving and texturing, pyrography and colouring.

Sculptural Multi-centred Hollowing - In this demo Graeme presents his unique approach to multi-centre bowl and hollow turning. He covers design, set-up, turning, sharpening and post-lathe surface embellishment.
