J. Paul Fennell
A great Saturday was spent by many members of the guild watching and learning from a master. John Paul Fennell entertained those in attendance with his individual style of taking the ordinary hollow form from the ordinary to the extravagant. He demonstrated his turning skills taking a piece of local wood foreign to him and turning it into a delightful super thin hollow form. He used a variety of tools from classic commercial tools to a collection of his home made tools. His use of a surgical fiber optic light on the inside of his hollow form brought a collective "ahhh" as the first light shone thought the wood.

Intense interest was shown as he demonstrated his techniques of laying out the patterns for his basket weave design and carving it into the vessel. As well he demonstrated the use of home made tools, such as machine taps, to produce a series of concentric rings on a vessel.

John Paul's collection of tools which ranged from simple hollowing bars made from pipes and machine bits to the elaborate surgical light and high air turbines for carving and small "Dremel" like tools for intricate sanding.

The discussion on design showed great thought knowledge and familiarity with his particular style. His ease and poise as a speaker made this section inspirational and rewarding to watch.
